Introduced to Australia in 1996, originally as 5 main numbers plus a Powerball drawn from a pool of 45. It was restructured in 2013 to 6 main numbers from 40 with the Powerball pool cut to 1–20, then again in April 2018 to its current format: 7 main numbers from a pool of 35 plus a separate Powerball from 1 to 20. Each change pushed Division 1 odds out further and enabled much larger jackpots. Draws are held every Thursday evening.
