Many enquiries are received here regarding old lottery tickets – Lotto, Powerball, OZ Lotto and various other old tickets. If you hold old tickets unclaimed for decades, it is highly doubtful any claim on them would be successful – you could always try. The Lotteries field in Australia is highly changeable, and a claim that would be validated by one State’s Lottery, may be refused by another.

    • I’m not sure on their reasoning for this. On the bright side, at least when you can successfully claim prizes, they are all yours – all winnings in Australia are tax-free.

  10. Recently moved house and found several older Powerball/Lotto/Oz Lotto tickets dating back to mid 2019 (well within the 6 year thresh hold), but when I use the ‘check my ticket’ it says ‘ticket number not found. Please check and try again’ how do you search older tickets? Have taken them in store and was advised that they were unable to look up these tickets (dates ranging 25/6/2019 – 12/8/2021)

    • Hi Fiona, if you have checked your ticket using the ticket number search and it fails, it’s time to phone the Lotteries office – see phone numbers above for your state.
