Caulfield Cup Tips 2010

Caulfield Cup 2010 is upon us, after what I consider a poor year for racing in Australia (small fields, lack of quality), I present my tips and G Network Selection (to bet) as I do each year for Caulfield Cup. Focus is on the main event, the Caulfield Cup itself, a 2400 metre Group 1 Race and main leadup to the Melbourne Cup, the race that stops the nation.

On perusal of form, and having seen most of the runners coming into this, I’ve settled on 3 top chances as my tips, with one of these being worthy of G Network Selection – yes, one to bet! SHOCKING, this year’s favourite is a chance, but doesn’t do best at Caulfield, so I left it out. The track will be very wet and this will aid the following runners too.

Caulfield Cup Tips

10. TRIPLE HONOUR
Consistent of late, down 5kg in weight, suited to this distance, never run at Caulfield – by Honours List, nice breeding for wet track. Top value, bet of the day.
G Network Selection – Recommended Bet: 1unit WIN, 5units PLACE.
TAB NSW Fixed odds: $31.00W $8.50P

12. ALCOPOP
Drops 5kg in weight, nice stats for course, distance and wet track. Unfortunate wide barrier(18) draw – by Jeune, great breeding for 2400m wet, and may go on to win the Melbourne Cup.

13. HERCULIAN PRINCE
Great stats for this, loves to win, probably Gai Waterhouse’s best chance here.

  1. No joy on these tips. The Heavy track in Caulfield favoured strongly the Heavy track specialist breeds, in particular in this race, two by High Chapparal. The other by MontJeu also great on heavy track especially 2400m.
Some breeds just excel on sloshy tracks, and breeding is a most important factor on Heavy track, as proven in the races on Caulfield Cup day.

  2. Given that the Moonee Valley Track for the 2010 Cox Plate should be drier than the heavy track for the Caulfield Cup, I was wondering if you had a tip for the Cox Plate in 2010? “So You Think” ran convincingly to win in its last race. Do you think it will win in the Cox Plate 2010, like it did in 2009? I like “Whobegotyou” as it seems to love the Moonee Valley track, and can put in good times, and has Street Cry breeding, which is a definite plus. Any ideas? Al
