This article is written especially for regular players of Poker machines, or “Pokies” as they are known in Australia.

20% Loss
It is a mathematical fact that all pokies will keep around 20 cents out of EVERY dollar invested, yes 20%, of every dollar – Pokies in Australia have a quoted payout percentage of 87% or higher, but this can only be verified by long extensive trials, and as machine payout ratios vary, lets assume a round 20% is lost.

Long Term Loss
If you play through $100, the machine will keep around $20 of it, never to return! That’s mathematics. With those sort of odds, it really is a wonder why people flock to them in droves at pubs and clubs all over the country. Think about it, if you play through $200 in a week, thats $40 gone for that week, and forever! Maintaining this level of play in an attempt to recover losses, would only get you further behind, to the tune of $2000 a year. Clearly, Pokies are a loser, and if you are serious about making money from gaming, try something else.

Why play?
If Pokies are such a bad bet, why do so many people play them so fervently? Well, its a trick. Playing on human psychology, the designers of these machines have installed all the bells, whistles and lights in an attempt to excite us, alter our mood and thinking. They appear as rows of flashing signs shouting “Play me”, “Win here”. To the average person the attraction is too strong to resist, and the thought of easy money appeals to everybody. All this plays on peoples impulsive and addictive nature, which is why this form of gambling can be the most ruinous to people’s daily lives.

G Network recommends avoiding Pokies
Pokies are the worst form of gaming around. If you must play, or want to have a go while sipping a cool drink, just play a few gold coins through to try your luck.

Is there a way of winning on the Pokies?
A lot of people will tell you that they are in front on their pokie play, but have no written records to show this, they are working from selective memory and are losers. There is a way to take money from the pokies, but requires a level of planning and discipline, which most players drawn to these infernal machines sadly lack.

How Pokies work
An understanding of how Pokies work may help in the quest for easier pokie money.
It is quite simple really, the more money the machine takes, the more it pays out, less the 20% it keeps. Money OUT = Money IN (-20%) they ALWAYS keep 20% commission for the club, and our beloved government. Simple. The more money a machine has taken, the more it HAS to payout, according to a mathematical algorithm that is programmed in. They are designed that way, and this is the clue to winning on pokies.

How to win on Pokies
The tip above, “just play a few gold coins through” is a good starting point, as the more you put in, the harder it becomes to get it back. Put this together with the fact that Money OUT = Money IN (-20%), and we have the makings of a winning strategy.

Winning Strategy
Relax. Watch and WAIT until a machine has been WELL FED by someone else (Money IN), and they finally give up. Go up to the machine and play it with a few gold coins, if it pays, take the winnings (Money OUT), if no pay just walk away. Some people don’t like it when you clean out “their” machine with a dollar, but we all have the right to good luck! This strategy may require some patience and discipline, but through the power of “leveraged probability”, the run may just go your way, a little more often. Just remember, the pokies will pay out well, usually after taking some money first. If it has taken $500, it will probably be ready to pay out $400, so watch for the really big pokie players (losers), and jump on their machine after they have finally given up. Frequently the machine will payout nicely after only a few spins! Good luck.

Did you WIN mate?
People will often ask after a race day or gaming session, “Did you WIN mate?”

The answer to this question, is what this article is all about.

Success
In any form of punting or gaming, success must ultimately be determined by the $Units Returned (PROFIT) over time – otherwise, it is simply a pastime to be had while consuming beer.

Long Term Loss
Why would anyone play a game if guaranteed to LOSE in the LONG TERM! Exactly – games like poker machines are a perfect example, guaranteed to lose 15%+ of every $Unit played – not a great loss, to toss a dollar while drinking a cool one – but you would need luck from heaven to come out in front on pokies, in the long term. Most other forms of gambling aren’t much better, when viewed statistically, the way people play most games of chance, GUARANTEES Long Term LOSS! Hard to believe, but the numbers don’t lie.

Margin Loss
All bets are subject to an Automatic Margin Loss, mathematically built into every game – through the wonder of Probability – that’s how the house makes it’s PROFIT. No matter who wins, the house typically creams between 5%-95%.

Player Advantage
It becomes crucial for the professional, to play a method that can detect and capitalize on moments when Player Advantage is high, and to strike well at these moments, and no other!

Profit Margin
In any betting strategy, there are basically 2 ways of going about winning, the Short-Term or Long-Term approach. Due to the nature of horse racing, the time periods for tracking play, span seasons and years, and therefore more suited to a LONG-TERM approach. In racing, as in all games of chance, if you constantly bet on the VALUE, or OVERS, and the Profit Margin exceeds the Commissions Margin you will be in profit over time. That’s right, so in racing, situations which give us at least 20% better value than assessed odds, will yield profit in time, as they beat the TAB’s Commission margin. This is the only hope for the punter to succeed.

Its that time of the year again, as all who share an interest in horse racing watch the lead ups to the Melbourne Cup. Saturday 4 October presents feature races, the Epsom Handicap at Randwick, and the Turnbull Stakes at Flemington. These will be the races of most interest, and looking at the fields, the multiples payouts may be quite decent if you can pick them.

Epsom Handicap 3YO+ Group1 1600m

A huge field with many good chances, there is one classy runner finding his peak, and worthy of a bet, Mentality. Mentality, has been running well and looks the goods, down in weight, and should finish off strongly. Other good chances are Theseo, a big down in weight, but may find the wide barrier a disadvantage, and at huge odds Spy Zaim($51W) may make an appearance.

Turnbull Stakes 4YO+ 2000m

Another runner worthy of a bet is Pompeii Ruler. This horse has proven time and again in these conditions, is running at his peak of fitness, and has won 3 from 3 races at Flemington. Pompeii Ruler could embarass this lot if he runs to his best form, very hard to beat. Weekend Hussler the odds on favourite, starts from a wide barrier, has yet to run this distance, but was staying just in front of Pompeii Ruler last start, in the Caulfield Underwood Stakes 1800m. I’ve a feeling the last 200m of this race may tell another story. Other chances Zarita($26W), Efficient($35W), and Zipping($61W) all represent excellent value, and all have a decent chance at upsetting favourite backers in the Turnbull Stakes.

Well its that time of the year again, as we warm up for what’s left of Spring Racing in Australia. Saturday’s Turnbull Stakes being the quality race of the day, there is really only one selection here.

Zipping looks the excellent value in the Turnbull Stakes, has the class and the guts to beat this lot, El Segundo, Marasco, and all. This 6 year old gelding, with excellent breeding DANEHILL(USA) – SOCIAL SCENE(IRE) has shown some real gutsy runs these conditions – ran 4th in the Melbourne Cup 2006, and won the 2006 Moonee Valley Cup.

Zipping has had one run back after a spell – ran on well for 3rd to Marasco and Apache Cat in the Makybe Diva Stakes 1600m on September 8. Has a lot more to offer over 2000m and will prove invincible on a DEAD track.
If the Flemington track surface ends up rated GOOD, he may get beat, and just place, but a DEAD track will be another story.

Today’s G Network Racing Selection:
ZIPPING

Saturday’s Fixed odds race in Brisbane, is the Doomben Summer Stakes 1200m, on at 5.15pm. This looks like an interesting race, with many chances, but one runner stands out for consistent runs this campaign and beneficial factors in this race.

Enthusiast is the Racing Selection in Doomben.

This 7 year old gelding by Flying Spur, is down in weight, ridden by top performing jockey S Scriven, and comes from barrier 1. Recent rides were from wide barriers, and he still got across to run at the front every race.

Has put in consistently good times, and will probably get straight out to the front and lead all the way. Challenges may come from Starlactic and Impaler, and look for the late lunge by Hard to Catch.

The favourite Natural Destiny may be in this, but has not proven convincingly in these conditions, may place.

Tracking through the NSW Lotto recent results, some quite extreme situations have occured in the patterns analysed. The sum totals have been difficult to predict, as there were 3 games in a row where the smallest number was 19, 20, 21 consecutively, this had not occured for 135 draws.

The movement of the Saliu Filters point to a drop in the ANY 6, soon. This means all 6 numbers will be derived from only a few recent draws, 4-7 draws! This gives quite an advantage over odds as the possible field of played numbers could be 20 or less.

With a little luck, all numbers could also swing back to SMALL, all under 33, which could reduce the possible numbers down to 10-15 numbers, quite a leverage over lady luck!! For example, with 14 numbers played, scrambled by a Saliu wheeling, full coverage may be achieved for guaranteed 5 out of 6, with only 22 games played!!!

For a total cost of around $11.00 including Double Up, with all 6 hits in our 14, we could expect around $1,000.00 return, guaranteed!

It is far better to narrow down the field, and spend less, as the day those few criteria are correct, is the day of a nice payout. The trick with lotto over the long term, is to minimize play and spending, and to have a good go when conditions are advantageous.
With high variation in numbers, following above criteria, we can reduce down to 22 numbers today:

1 3 4 6 8 10 11 12 14 17 19 20 21 22 23 24 26 27 28 29 30 31 32 33

20 numbers wheeled, would give a guaranteed 5 out of 6 with 121 games played. 2 numbers would need be excluded.

If conditions were very advantageous, wheeling would be the go. As some doubt still exists, optimized games are better, and will save a few dollars.

18 games standard, Cost $10.00.

1 6 21 28 29 33

1 3 6 12 21 33

1 6 7 10 12 26

9 12 21 28 29 32

2 8 14 17 22 32

6 8 12 22 32 33

6 11 12 23 26 27

12 21 29 31 32 33

The race of the day being run at Sandown, Race 6 at 4.05pm, is the Eclipse Stakes Group3. There are several chances, including a few outsiders, and this race could produce a decent trifecta.

Take note, last week Sandown produced some good results from very wide barriered runners, so don’t assume the wider drawn runners will be out of it today!

Top Picks:

Valkyrie Diva – running well of late, the one to beat.

Newport – model of consistency, looks right in this.

Life’s A Bounty – long shot, proven in these conditions.

Utility – has ability, can do here.

The G Network Selection here for it’s good value, would have been Life’s A Bounty, but as there are only minutes left to bet at NSW Fixed odds, presented as one to watch and include in multiples. Currently:

Another Sandown Classic day on Saturday, with the feature race the Sandown Classic 2400m on at 4.10pm. The race of interest for G Network punters is the race that follows, the Sandown Stakes, 1400m on at 4.50pm, as it represents the best value for money, and easy money at that!

Standout runner Anwaar looks the goods, a 5 year old gelding by Secret Savings, has put in some good times, is always there, and comes home strongly to 1400 metres. Nice weight 52.5kg, barrier 6 with jockey S Baster aboard, Anwaar seems very well placed in this and will be hard to beat in the home stretch.

Virtually a guaranteed place, currently at NSW Fixed odds $18.00Win $5.25Place, looks like easy money.

Only one G Network Racing Selection, Anwaar.

In a fairly open affair, the Bendigo Cup today may produce a sizable trifecta. There are 2 selections in the Bendigo Cup, seeming the most consistent with best times this distance, and well weighted.

Home Sweet has been tracking nicely into this, coming off a win and 2nd place last 2 starts, runs much better up to this distance today, and really nicely weighted.

Aeroforce One the kiwi contender has had a couple of runs in Melbourne at 1600m and 1800m without really performing, but has much ability, times, and consistence this distance.

Fine race day Flemington, may produce a nice trifecta or two late afternoon, Race 6 Emirates Stakes, and Race 9 Emirates Airline Handicap in particular.
The focus of the day is the Group1 Emirates Stakes at 3pm, featuring star spring runner Desert War who has really put in the strides this campaign. 2 wins, 3 places from 6 runs including last week’s convincing win in the Mackinnon Stakes, beating Growl and Aqua D’Amore in a driving finish to the line. Gets up and going well in front and never tires, he is the one to beat, currently favourite on NSW Fixed odds $4.40W $1.85P.
There are a few potential challengers here, but the one settled on as best chance to crack the favourite, or come close to, is Spirit Of Tara. Most recent rides have not suited, today’s conditions, weight, barrier however do suit, and loves 1600 metres to boot!
Read more on today’s G Network Racing selection:
Top chances:

Desert War – Gets up and going well in front and never tires, the one to beat.
Spirit Of Tara – classy, suited in this, always seems to find the line well to 1600m.
Sassbee – lightly raced, only quality races, nice weight, loves 1600m.
Bentley Biscuit – lightly raced, only quality races, brilliant time in Doncaster Hcp 1600m.
Sea Change – always there, good times 1600m, wide barrier, runner up last week’s Myer Classic 1600m.
